Grevenmacher (Luxembourgish: Gréiwemaacher) is a commune with city status in eastern Luxembourg, near the border with Germany. It is the capital of the canton and the district of Grevenmacher. The city is situated on the left bank of the Moselle River, in a wine growing region.
As of 2005, the town of Grevenmacher, which lies in the east of the commune, has a population of 3,734.
The town is the site of one of the six regional headquarters of the Grand Ducal Police.

Le nom de Grevenmacher est composé de deux mots: "Greven" et "Macher". "Macher" tire son origine du mot latin "maceria" (vieilles murailles), tandis que "Greven" vient du mot allemand "Grafen" , qui veut dire comte. La ville "Macher" du comte se distingue depuis 1346 des autres "Machern", qui existaient dans la région: Königsmacher, Kleinmacher, Rodemacher, Mecher, Mézières etc. Le nom de Grevenmacher dans sa forme actuelle existe depuis 1769.
